Development of Nanostructured Sensors for Ultra-sensitive, Label-free and Selective Detection of Biological and Chemical Species (2011-2013)
Abstract
This project innovatively develops devices for ultra-sensitive, label-free, real-time and selective detection of chemical and gaseous species using Si-based nanostructures. Here, finely controlled Si-based nanostructures decorated by silica shells with surface modifications will be developed and, in turn, assembled into sensing devices. The significance of this project is that these novel devices can be timely employed for detecting and quantifying chemical and gaseous species in a wide range of applications, such as in health care, life science, and new drug molecules. The expected outcomes will lead to breakthrough in the development of next generation nanoscale sensing platforms for medical diagnostics and chemical detection.
