Virtual Transport Networks (2012-2014)

Abstract

In collaboration with the Integrated Public Transport Information Systems team at Jeppesen Rail Logistics and Terminals, this project will investigate the construction of virtual time-dependent networks to be used in algorithm testing and software design. Time-dependent networks are used to model many complex systems such as public transportation systems and production-distribution systems, and are networks with associated edge and node weights that vary with time. Software developers spend billions of dollars testing new products that perform algorithmic searches on time-dependent networks. The virtual transport networks developed in this project will reduce testing time and increase the reliabillity of such software.
