The biogeochemical cycling of gold: Development of innovative strategies in exploration (2013-2015)

Abstract

This geomicrobiology research project will strive to enhance the country's mining leadership by developing innovative methods for gold exploration. Understanding the dispersion of gold through microbial weathering of gold bearing sulphides and gold grains, producing bacterioform- and nanoparticulate-gold will improve our understanding of the behaviour of gold in dispersion halo environments, and lead to improved sampling and targeting of gold anomalies in soils and sediments. This fundamental research will produce economic benefits for the Australian mining industry and enhance Australia's position as a global leader in providing innovative solutions to challenges encountered within the mining sector.
