Laser facility for quantum optics, imaging, and fabrication (ARC LIEF Administered by University of Melbourne) (2008)

Abstract

A laser facility will be established to support collaborative research projects in quantum optics, imaging, and sensing. These projects include new approaches to imaging using quantum correlated light, establishment of quantum information processing using diamond, quantum effects in frozen gases of Rydberg atoms, generation of x-rays from ultracold plasma, and fabrication of photonic devices. The projects are funded both domestically and internationally, and connected by their need for access to new cutting-edge laser systems. This facility will enable new initiatives, enhance and accelerate our research, and economise through sharing resources, allowing our ideas to continue to compete on an internationally competitive time scale.
