Mastering the Microenvironment - Integrated functional biosynthetic scaffolds for tissue engineering (2005-2007)

Abstract

Novel diagnostic tools based on microdevice technology for quantification and characterisation of cell behaviour and tissue growth within controlled microenvironments will be developed. This insight will then be transcribed to integrated three dimensional porous biocompatible polymer scaffolds via novel continuous manufacturing methods. The results will create a new avenue for systematic investigations into the effects of scaffold structure and function on cell culture and tissue growth and will lead to the development of reliable well-controlled manufacturing techniques for programmed tissue engineering scaffolds revolutionising current scaffold manufacturing practices.
