Buckling of functionally graded multilayer graphene nanocomposites (ARC Discovery Project administered by RMIT University) (2016-2018)
Abstract
Abrupt or progressive buckling failure under excessive compressive loads is a common and often catastrophic problem in engineering structures. The proposed project will develop a novel lightweight, functionally graded multilayer graphene nanocomposite structure with significantly enhanced buckling resistance and present a combined theoretical, numerical and experimental investigation into their buckling and postbuckling behaviors, taking into account the effect of initial imperfection. The research represents a major advancement in the knowledge base of the mechanical behavior of lightweight nanocomposite structures and will also provide huge national socio-economic benefits through this new technology.
