Assessing the mineral security dimensions of multi-dimensional poverty (2025-2028)

This project aims to address a major gap in our understanding of global poverty by assessing for the first time the mineral security dimensions. Minerals are the only natural resource absent from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, despite their importance in providing shelter, mobility, energy, communication and sustenance. The project seeks to explore how the availability, access, stability and utilisation of minerals impact the prevalence and intensity of multi-dimensional poverty. Expected outcomes are improved measurement tools, policies and programs, which will benefit the 1.1 billion people living in poverty, and a schema for the potential inclusion of mineral security within the revised Sustainable Development Goals.
