Molecular control of a bacterial fight or flight response (2025-2027)

Abstract

This research aims to use forefront molecular microbiology and structural biology approaches to advance fundamental knowledge on a group of bacterial transcriptional regulators that control contrasting phenotypes ranging from antibiotic resistance and adaptation, to motility. The major goals of this project are to characterise the mechanisms by which these regulators sense and respond to stress, elucidate the structural basis for their multifaceted function, and define unique features of different regulators in this large family. The outcomes will advance our understanding of a widespread group of transcriptional regulators and decipher how they contribute to bacterial survival and antibiotic resistance.
