Scaling up percrystallisation technology for advanced manufacturing of metal compounds and zero-liquid discharge applications (2025-2026)

Abstract

This project will advance a novel membrane-based, continuous evaporative crystallisation system (percrystallisation) from Technology Readiness Level 3 to 4 by developing and demonstrating a pilot-scale unit capable of producing battery intermediate materials or zero liquid discharge system brine crystals. The primary aims are: 1.Demonstrate the technology's ability to produce battery-grade materials or zero liquid discharge system brine crystals at pilot scale. 2.Conduct a techno-economic evaluation comparing the system's operational and capital costs against current state-of-the-art evaporative crystallizers. 3.Validate the anticipated reduction in plant footprint and associated capital cost efficiencies.
