Reliable and Secure Decarbonised Power System for Australia
Abstract
By 2050, variable renewable energy (solar, wind) and energy storage (pumped storage hydro and battery) will dominate the Australian power system. However, variable renewable electricity generators do not currently provide the system stability that is inherent in fossil-fuelled generators, compromising power systems security. This project aims to develop new knowledge to enable the secure integration of variable renewable electricity generators into the electricity system and a new, coordinated power system solution to deliver operational security. We hope the outcomes will underpin an affordable, reliable, and net-zero Australian electricity network and position Australia at the forefront of global electricity research and development.
