Examining the role of aperiodic neural activity in perceptual integration
Abstract
The project examines arhythmic patterns in human brain activity and aims to determine their role in the brain's ability to integrate information over space, time, and the different senses. The project aims to generate new knowledge and to benefit Australian cognitive neuroscience by using an innovative interdisciplinary approach to resolve existing scientific controversies about the fundamental neural and computational mechanisms of perceptual integration. The outcomes of this project include new theory development and the creation of a large, public repository of behavioural and neural data. This should provide benefits such as informing the development of artificial intelligence devices to predict perception in safety-critical scenarios.
