Social connectedness upskilling for psychosocial wellbeing of caregivers
Abstract
Unpaid caring in Australia would cost over $77 billion to replace with a formal workforce, and yet carer's wellbeing is in decline. Four in ten unpaid carers experience loneliness compared to one in ten of all Australians. Modifying risk factors for loneliness is key to minimising the problem. Our intervention, GROUPS 4 HEALTH (G4H), a group-based social identity intervention that skills up adults to build and sustain meaningful group-based networks, targets this issue directly. This project will contribute to unpacking the mechanisms leading to loneliness in carers, introduce a co-designed and tailored program to manage it, and determine its acceptability, efficacy, and cost-effectiveness to keep the carer workforce active and thriving.
