Production of ultra-stable mRNA by chemical synthesis

Abstract

Advanced mRNA manufacture enables an emerging industry predicted to reach >$20B USD by 2035. Currently mRNA manufacture is expensive, slow, can result in impurities and results in a product with low stability. To overcome the limitations of conventional mRNA manufacture we developed an approach that utilises chemical rather than enzymatic synthesis to rapidly manufacture high quality mRNAs with improved performance. This research program will establish a one-step protocol for chemical synthesis of functional peptide-encoding mRNAs. Chemical modifications enable improved the stability, performance and targeted delivery to various organs of the body. Overall, this research aims to transform the way mRNAs are made and used.
