AI Futures: the virtue triad of regulation, self-governance, and leadership
Abstract
The development and rapid advancement of generative artificial intelligence has regulators racing to govern this digital revolution while enabling its benefits for humanity, with tensions also surfacing in associated organisations between purpose and profit. This project aims to investigate the governance challenges and roles of various actors to mitigate risk and ethics of artificial intelligence, focussing on the interplay of multiple governance levels. The project will develop an integrative system of digital governance regulation (national/supra-national), self-governance (organizations), and responsible leadership (key decision-makers/boards) in the form of a governance toolkit. This will support responsible multi-level oversight.
