Heat exchangers for supercritical CO2 power conversion systems (2025-2026)
Abstract
UQ has developed a Supercritical CO2 Power Conversion System (sCO2- PCS) platform during a decade of research and is now collaborating with its industry partner to commercialise the technology. An important market entry point for sCO2-PCS technology is waste heat recovery, with further applications in concentrated solar thermal power and thermal energy storage. These applications rely on ¿dry¿ cooling using air. The project will build on a unique lab-scale (TRL 3) demonstration of a sCO2 heat exchanger conducted in 2020 to deliver and validate a prototype sCO2 Precooler module suitable for integration into a future supercritical CO2 power block for power generation.
