Determinants of Expression Assembly and Function of the Noradrenaline Transporter (2005-2007)

Abstract

Chemicals called neurotransmitters are released from nerves and usually have their effects terminated by transport back into the nerve by transporter proteins. The focus of this project is the transporter protein for the neurotransmitter noradrenaline which is released from nerves that control fight and flight responses such as increases in heart rate and is also an important chemical transmitter in nerves in the brain. Our aim in this project to determine how the structure of the noradrenaline transporter protein controls its correct assembly in the nerve cell membrane and its function
