After the Future of Work: Platformised Labour in a Hotter Australia (2026-2030)

Abstract

This project aims to investigate the growing conflict between digitally-coordinated labour seen as the future of work and rising heat from climate change, which deeply impacts it but is not accounted for. This project expects to generate new knowledge about pressures on Australian workers by collecting worker stories and rethinking work using an interdisciplinary lens from media, labour, and environmental studies. Expected outcomes include a map of key climate-tech issues and a climate-aware blueprint for better work. This should provide significant benefits: integrating climate into work models and systems will support worker well-being and foster a future-ready economy in our hotter and more uncertain world.
