Visualising phase distribution of glassy metal-organic framework within polymer composite membranes (2025)
Abstract
Glassy metal-organic framework (MOF)¿polymer composites offer a promising route to overcome interfacial incompatibility in gas separation membranes. This project aims to employ synchrotron-based micro-computed tomography to investigate the internal microstructure of these composites before and after thermal treatment. We will visualise the phase distribution and defect healing behaviour of MOF glasses within the polymer matrix, providing critical insights into the structural evolution during processing. The outcomes will advance fundamental understanding of MOF¿polymer interactions and guide the rational design of high-performance membranes with improved selectivity, stability, and scalability for separation and related technologies.
