A longitudinal investigation into social cognitive ageing (2027-2030)

Abstract

This project aims to deliver the world's first longitudinal social cognitive ageing dataset, providing novel insights into the developmental trajectory of social cognitive change in late adulthood. This project expects to reveal when, how and why core social cognitive skills change at different stages of late life development, and critically, how these changes contribute to social isolation and loneliness in older age. Expected outcomes include establishing a national research infrastructure that will enhance cross-institutional and international collaboration. This project should provide significant benefits, by generating the foundational data that will inform strategies to help older Australians to remain socially connected for longer.
