Small nucleus, broad influence: the Locus Coeruleus in brain states (2027-2030)

Abstract

This project aims to reveal the central processing mechanisms of the brain: one of the most fundamental challenges in science. This project expects to develop innovative technologies to to uncover the foundations of neural communication through the meticulous manipulation of a key brain region: the Locus Coeruleus. Expected outcomes of this project include state of the art microscopy approaches, avenues for the development of adaptive models in artificial intelligence, high impact publications, and international collaborations. The anticipated benefits are the high-quality training of the Australian workforce and further establishment of Australia as a leader in microscopy, neuroscience and artificial intelligence.
