Regenerable CO2 adsorbing materials for zero emission power generation systems (2007-2009)

Abstract

Society depends on coal based energy production and will continue to do so for decades into the future. However concerns about climate change due to emissions of CO2 from coal utilization need to be addressed for coal-based power utilities. Novel coal power generation concepts have been proposed to achieve zero emission of CO2 to the atmosphere, while attaining very high efficiencies of up to 68%. Many of these new processes rely on CO2 adsorbing material as the core technology, but suitable adsorbents are yet to be developed. The aim of this project is to develop CO2 adsorbing materials that can be used in zero emission power generation systems.
