The role of organisational events and emotions in strategic decision-making (2007-2009)

The role of emotion in organisations has recently become a major focus of research in organisational behaviour. This proposal involves four projects based on Affective Events Theory (AET), which holds that environmental events generate emotional reactions that have behavioural and attitudinal consequences for the individuals concerned. Using innovative new approaches that incorporate organisational justice, stress-induced insomniac reactions, and interactional justice training, we extend AET to deal with organisation-level events and top management decisions that affect the organization as a whole. Results will significantly extend the application of AET, and demonstrate the implications of the theory for organisational effectiveness.
