Research impacts
Roland De Marco started his career at CSIRO in partnership with Pasminco Metals where his research demonstrated that Bismuth in Australian lead does not impact deleteriously on lead/acid battery performance, minimizing the costly implications of Pasminco Metals' debismuthization process.
In his research at Curtin University, University of the Sunshine, Fiji National University and University of Queensland, he developed and implemented new and effective corrosion mitigation, control and monitoring practices for industry partners like Woodside, Chevron, Ondeo Nalcon and Mobil. He partnered with Alberto Zirino at the US Office of Naval Research through SPAWAR Systems Laboratory and Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) to co-develop and implement techniques for the monitoring of free copper and free iron using ion-selective electrodes (ISEs) in oceanographic systems, and he assisted San Ping Jiang at Curtin University as well as John Zhu in partnership with their industrial partners in the development and implementation of innovative fuel cell and catalyst systems. Last, with Erno Lindner at The University of Memphis in partnership with International Laboratory (IL), he identified an optimal solid contact ISE system that minimizes conditiniong times when new sensors are swapped in IL's clinical analyzers.
