Linking Chemical Synthesis with Protein Discovery to Reveal Key Biological Pathways (2012-2014)

Abstract

This application will comprehensively identify a family of cell signalling proteins in mammalian cancer cells and tissues. Innovative synthetic chemistry coupled to advanced cell biology proposed herein will greatly increase our understanding of cell signalling pathways ubiquitous in mammals and implicated in a range of human diseases. It will also deliver new technologies for routine construction of challenging drug molecules from nature, cell signalling tool kits for biochemistry laboratories, and potential applications in the clinic. The project follows a model that has triggered landmark discoveries in two other areas of medical research.
