Reactive intermediates and microwave-assisted organic reactions (2007-2009)

Abstract

This investigation aims at a novel approach to the use of reactive intermediates in organic synthesis assisted by microwave irradiation. Very little prior knowledge exists in this areas, but our own experiments suggest highly important effects: (i) Microwave (MW) irradiation can greatly enhance singlet nitrene reactivity; (ii) MW irradiation allows not only the generation but also the rapid trapping of reactive intermediates by providing the necessary activation energy; (iii) MW photochemistry can be used to generate reactive intermediates followed by rapid thermal reactions. These phenomena will be investigated thoroughly. This chemistry will be applied in novel syntheses of neuroleptic drugs.
