An Early Warning Framework for the Prevention of Genocide and Mass Atrocities (2009-2010)

Abstract

This project aims to develop, test and refine a framework to provide accurate and timely early warning of genocide and mass atrocities. Preventing genocide and mass atrocities saves lives and is much cheaper than intervening to halt killings once underway and rebuilding societies afterwards. However, preventive policies require accurate early warning systems and at present the world lacks a framework capable of delivering accurate and timely early warning of genocide and mass atrocities. This project aims to develop, test and refine just a system that could then incorporated into any comprehensive policy framework for preventing mass killing.
