NHMRC Research Fellowship: Using genomics to understand psychiatric disorders (2015-2019)

Abstract

My research lies at the interface of statistics and genetics and is motivated by a desire to improve prevention, diagnosis and prognosis of those with mental illness. The significance of psychiatric disorders to public health is unquestioned, but the past decades have seen less progress in psychiatry than other branches of medicine. The genomics era presents new hope for breaking this impasse. My vision is that application of genomics methods in psychiatry will catalyze more discoveries about the causes of these disorders, ultimately leading to prevention strategies, improved diagnosis paired with more targeted treatments.
