Chemical Building Block Size Principles for Discovery Chemists (2018-2021)

Abstract

The expanding global population relentlessly places significant challenges on discovery chemistry, driven by an insatiable appetite for innovative chemical technologies highly desirable for societal longevity (e.g. pharmaceuticals, agrichemicals, microelectronics). This research will deliver an innovative platform of new fundamental molecules, and associated design principles, that will assist discovery chemists (DCs) to sidestep outdated caged hydrocarbon chemical building blocks (CHCBBs). Translation of this new CHCBB technology into accessible commodity supply streams will provide DCs with inspirational tools, and hybrid-discipline trained students, to satisfy the ingenuity burden that faces future chemical technology discovery.
