A Glycomimetic Platform for Advanced Manufacturing of Cell Banks
Abstract
This project aims to characterise changes in complex sugars that are crucial to molecular signals controlling stem cell growth and aging during long-term culture. Characterisation of these sugars naturally produced by stem cells will be used as templates for the design and development of a library of novel synthetic sugar mimetics as media additives to replenish lost signals. The creation of these bio-inspired and easy-to-produce additives will advance research efforts in the development of cost-effective manufacturing and banking of high-quality and clinical-grade stem cells. This will be achieved by leveraging decades of research expertise in glycobiology and bioengineering.
