Authentication and Provenance of Manipulated Media with Justification and Explanation for Non-Expert Users (2026-2027)

Abstract

Media manipulation entails deliberately manipulating media materials employing AI-driven tools. The unprecedented proliferation of media manipulation on social media platforms can significantly influence people¿TM)s attitudes and adversely affect society. AI-enabled tracking of the entire media manipulation pipeline can effectively combat this issue by providing authentication and provenance services for non-expert users. This project¿TM)s objective is to develop a system that can assist in authenticating the origin of media, its manipulation during its propagation across various social media platforms, and provide evidence-based justification and explanations. The system will conduct an in-depth analysis of the various factors that contribute to media manipulations, commencing from the sources of media, the scenarios of manipulation, and the complexities inherent in the process.
