Abstract
Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) are key carriers for mRNA medicines, but many formulations lose effectiveness after freeze-drying, limiting storage and transport. This project will examine how LNP composition controls their internal structure and how these structures change during lyophilization and reconstitution. Using synchrotron small-angle X-ray scattering, we will identify which structural features govern particle stability. The results will guide rational design of LNP chemistries that better withstand freeze-drying, improving shelf life, handling, and global distribution of mRNA therapeutics.
