Calcium regulation in the skeletal muscle triad and along the fibre. (2008-2009)
Abstract
In skeletal muscle, calcium concentration must be maintained within certain bounds to insure normal function. This involves complex movements of calcium ions across surface and internal membranes and within membrane networks. Periods of muscle work and rest require different regulatory action. This project will define calcium movements under both conditions in signalling microdomains and at global levels within the cell. This will lead to a greater understanding of calcium regulation in muscle and the associated changes in states such as fatigue, age and in disease.
