Available projects

  • Neural circuits for spatial navigation and locomotion control in Drosophila

A PhD position is available to investigate how neural circuits implement behavioural algorithms for spatial navigation and locomotor control in Drosophila. The student will learn state-of-the-art methods in optogenetics, connectomics, neurophysiology, and computational neuroscience, and apply these methods to discover the neural mechanisms that allow the fly to explore and exploit its environment. These findings will provide fundamental insights into animal cognition and motor control systems and may inspire the design of advanced robotics systems. Motivated students with a strong background in neuroscience, genetics, or engineering, including experimental research experience in any of these areas, are encouraged to apply.
