Overview

Background

Kanchana is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Policy Futures with a background in economics. Her research focuses on labour market vulnerability, tourism resilience, disaster risk management, climate adaptation, and economic security. She has experience across academia, government policy research, and economic consulting, with expertise in both quantitative and qualitative research methods. Her work seeks to generate evidence that informs policy development and helps address emerging social and economic challenges.

Research interests

  • Labour markets and employment

    Research focused on labour market analysis, workforce shortages, vulnerable employment, transitions to work, and the labour market impacts of economic and policy interventions.

  • Tourism resilience

    Research examining the impacts of crises and disruptions on tourism systems. Areas of interest include economic impact assessment, labour market impacts, tourism recovery, and the development of evidence-based strategies to support resilience in tourism sector

  • Climate adaptation and disaster risk management

    Research focused on climate and disaster risks, their social and economic impacts, and strategies to manage and reduce risk. Areas of interest include climate adaptation, disaster risk management, and social protection.

  • Food security

    Research focused on food systems and the factors that influence food security. Areas of interest include food security measurement and indicators, food insecurity assessment, and the development of methods to measure and predict food security
