Design of disulfide-rich peptides to target ion channels and receptors
Abstract
The primary objective of this project is to develop and validate a molecular engineering pipeline for the production of disulfide-rich peptides that selectively and potently target ion channels and receptors. The aims of the project are workflow optimisation and pipeline validation (Aim 1), and to explore the scope of the approach for targeting different ion channels (Aim 2) and receptors (Aim 3). The development of this pipeline is significant as it will allow us to design molecules that can turn receptors on or off with exquisite potency and selectivity. These molecule will have a range of potential uses including as research tools, diagnostic markers and future therapeutic leads.
