Ni K-edge X-ray absorption analysis of Cl-coordinated Ni single-atom catalysts enabling high-voltage Li¿Nn2 batteries (2026)
Abstract
Lithium¿nitrogen batteries are a promising technology for clean energy storage, but their reaction mechanism and active sites remain poorly understood. We recently developed a chlorine-coordinated nickel single-atom catalyst that enables unusually high discharge voltages. This proposal aims to use advanced X-ray absorption spectroscopy to directly probe how chlorine modifies the nickel electronic structure and how the catalyst changes during battery operation. The results will reveal the key atomic-scale factors that enable efficient nitrogen conversion, guiding the design of next-generation catalysts for sustainable energy technologies.
