Overview
Background
Dr Angela Baeza is a woman, educator, researcher, mother, and daughter. She is Diaguita First Nation from the Atacama Desert of Chile and has been living and working in Meanjin since 2018. With a professional background as a school teacher and university lecturer, her research focuses on Indigenous education and culturally responsive pedagogies.
Her doctoral research centred on relationships among Indigenous communities, schools, and support systems, and her ongoing work continues to be guided by community knowledge and lived experiences. She has received multiple awards recognising her leadership in Indigenous education, including the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Contribution Award from the Australian Teacher Education Association in 2025.
Dr Baeza is a Research Fellow at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Futures at The University of Queensland.

She has actively contributed to significant research initiatives, such as the Queensland research project facilitated by the National Indigenous Research and Knowledges Network (NIRAKN). This ARC (Australian Research Council) funded project seeks to understand the social determinants that influence the completion of university by Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians

This ARC (Australian Research Council) funded project seeks to understand the social determinants that influence the completion of university by Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. Angela was the project's chief investigator, of the ECR Project "Creating partnerships for integrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge in Australian classrooms".
She has received multiple awards recognising her leadership in Indigenous education, including the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Contribution Award from the Australian Teacher Education Association in 2025.
