Overview
Background
Fiona is a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology with research interests in grief & loss, trauma, emtion regulation and anxiety. Her work is mechanism focussed. She applies experimental and longitudinal methods including experience sampling to better understand the pyschological processes that contribute to resilence and/or the development of psychopathology. Her work is also focussed on improving supports for those struggling with grief and trauma.
Fiona completed her Master of Psychology(Clnical) and PhD at UNSW and undertook an NHMRC postdoctoral fellowship at the Loss, Trauma and Emotion Lab at Teachers College, Columbia University. She also has many years experience working as a clinician in public health and private practice.

Grief, loss and trauma
This line of research is focused on improving outcomes and support for people living with loss. This involves - investigating the psychological mechanisms that underlie difficulties adapting to bereavement and other losses, including as coping responses, appraisals, and distress tolerance. - evaluating treatments for prolonged and traumatic grief and investigating the mechanisms of change in therapy - exploring the application of emerging technologies (Virtual reality, AI) for improving bereavement outcomes

Emotion regulation
This line of research is focused on understanding - the mechanisms that contribute to emotion regulation outcomes context specificity, strategy use and the ability to use feedback to guide development of skilful regulation. .

Autobiographical and self-identity process in clinical disorders
Understanding the mechanism underlying clinical dysfunctions in autobiographical remembering and future-related imaginings. This line of research investigates how manipulating autobiographical recall, future imaginings, and self-identity constructs impact on mood, decision making and current functioning.
