Research interests

  • Molecular basis of Plant-Microbe Interactions

My work focuses on mechanisms of pathogenicity and virulence of Fusarium species of fungi that infect cereal, cotton and horticultural crops along with a number of other host-pathogen interactions including Verticillium on cotton and Sclerotinia on canola. My research team used various biological technologies to dissect how these pathogens cause disease. I have a long-standing interest in the regulation and biosynthesis of small molecule toxins, biosynthesis of plant hormone mimics and mechanisms of degradation of host produced antimicrobial compounds. I look to use this understanding of infection processes to design innovative ways to control pathogens.
