Background

Herston Campus

Allyson Mutch is an Associate Professor in Health Systems in the School of Public Health, University of Queensland and a Senior Fellow in the Higher Education Academy. Her research uses qualitative methods to investigate the social determinants of health and the health and wellbeing of people who are socially excluded and experiencing disadvantage. Allyson's research is firmly embedded in community, with strong links to community organisations that ensure their needs are represented.

Research interests

  • Social Determinants of Health

    Health inequalities and the social determinants of health are foundational in my research and teaching. I am commited to conducting research in this area and sharing this work with my students in the classroom

  • Health and the wellbeing of marginalised and disadvantaged communities

    We are currently working with a number of population groups who are at risk of disadvantage and marginalisation (including people living with HIV and people with an intellectual disability)

  • Health Care Navigation

    Our work in this area has focused on referral pathways between the primary care and community health sector with increasing emphasis on integrated care with secondary health systems. This includes a specific interest in peer and nurse navigation
