She worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Australian National University in 2019-2021, and then at the University of Queensland with FAA, FTSE, Australian Research Council (ARC) Laureate Fellow Prof. Lianzhou Wang from July 2021. Since Jan 2023, she has been working as an ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) Research Fellow at School of Chemical Engineering, EAIT, UQ. Her research is characterised by interdisciplinary feature, which lies at the intersection of materials science, catalysis, and chemical engineering.
Dr. Lu has secured over AU$2M in competitive funding as lead CI from a variety of competitive funding sources, such as ARC, the Department of Education, ANSTO, QUEX institute and UQ internal grants. Her research excellence has been recognised through multiple honours such as Nanoscale Emerging Investigator (2025), UQ EAIT Early Career Research Leadership Award (2023), UQ EAIT Early Career Research Award (2022), and the UQ Award for Research Excellence in Energy Nanomaterials (2022).
She loves working with students. She is working as lecturer for CHEE3005 (Reaction Engineering). In the past years, she worked as the course coordinator for CHEE7340/CHEE7380/CHEE7381/CHEE7382 (Research Thesis/Project), and lecurer for CHEE4006/CHEE4007/CHEE4026/CHEE4027 (Research Thesis/Project), ENGG1500 (Thermodynamics : Energy and the Environment), and ENGY7112/7114/7115/7215 (Professional Project).
She is proud of having supervising over 15 students for undergraduate/postgraduate Research Thesis/Project/Summer project since she joined UQ, and some of these students continued to work as PhD students under her supervision. From 2026, she commences her new role as the School of Chemical Engineering Summer Research Program Coordinator.
