Research impacts
My research has led to policy and practice advances in Australia that have been adopted at the national level on gender and family dynamics, development of some of Australia’s most influential data assets and policy influence in areas such as social disadvantage, paid parental leave, childcare support and welfare dependence. I have undertaken evaluations of key government legislation such as paid parental leave and Dad and Partner Pay which have influenced the development, amendment and revision of these schemes.
I have led life course and longitudinal research to help create some of Australia’s enduring data assets, such as the ABS's Life Course Data Asset, to provide evidence on social and economic trends in Australia at the individual, family and community level.
In collaboration with colleagues in the ARC Centre of Excellence for Children and Families over the Life Course I have put life course approaches on the research and pollicy agenda.
I have attracted over $122 million in competitive research funding to drive my research program and build research and outreach capacity for social science researchers. I have used this funding to produce knew knowledge about social disadvantage and inequality, to create large-scale resarch and policy platforms, to build international consortia and to train and develop a pipeline of social researchers for the future.
I have built strong long-lasting partnerships and collaborations with government and community organisation to ensure pollicy impact and knowledge translation.
